Surfing - the war I lost

So ever since I met Yap, we've been talking about surfing. That was four years ago. Today was finally the day we decided to act on our desire to learn how to surf.

We put on our wetsuits and grabbed our boards and headed towards the water. Right when I got in, I got knocked by a decent sized wave and my bum hit the ground, hard. Stinging from the pain on my bum, I picked up my board and got on and rode the waves out...

I got out and Yap's friend's girlfriend, this amazing swimmer and surfer, taught us how to surf. She was teaching us the first step, paddle when you see a wave coming up close and when you go over, pull your upper body up. So I did that. It was a lot of fun and I was having a great time until......

Until I got caught in a rip curl and started riding the wave fast to shore. I saw the rocks up ahead and I pulled my surfboard in front of me for protection, I crashed into the rocks and got knocked a few times more when I finally got to shore. I lugged my surfboard and myself away from the water. I tried swimming back out but I caught another wave and was taken back to shore. Then, Amy, the super swimmer and surfer, saw me and came to my rescue. She helped me back on the board and back out to sea. I paddled hard and noticed I was missing a chunk off my pinky toe. Erg, looks really gross.

Anyways, I was in pain and battered but I was okay. After resting on the board for a bit, I decided to give it a try again.....

I got caught in another huge wave and saw myself riding the wave to the same spot. I tried swimming parallel to the wave, but I was too late. I was beelining straight towards a rock again....

I did the same move and pulled the surfboard to my protection. After I was knocked around a few times, I hid behind a huge rock to give me some protection from the waves smashing in to shore.

Once the waves simmered down, I saw that a fellow surfer from our group was on the other side of the rocky beach. I lugged my surfboard towards him where the waves were a bit calmer. I saw him getting rescued by Amy. I tried to hustle but they were already out.

I still lugged toward a safer part of the rocky beach and stood there trying to catch my breath. I already inhaled so much salt water by this time, I already felt dehydrated. Luckily, my adrenaline was pumping through my like mad. I felt nothing. I stood there waiting for Amy to come back.

She saw me and swam towards me. She told me to leave my surfboard behind and that she'll help me get out. So, I got on the surfboard and she pushed me out.

Except, I saw a huge wave coming at me, I got caught in it and started going back to shore. I got knocked in. I tried picking up my surfboard but another wave came in and knocked the board into my chin. I went under. I tried getting it again, but the surfboard was on top of me and knocking my head around. Ow. I finally was able to get out and call Amy for help.

This time she rode with me all the way out until I was safe. Once she knew I was safe, she went back for the other surfboard. Seriously, this girl is my hero. She's a rockstar.

Anyways, I was out of breath, cut, battered, and bruised. I just wanted to get out for the time being. I needed to gather my bearings and rest. Anthony, Amy's boyfriend, helped me get back to shore. Except, on the way out, we got caught in a massive wave and got knocked off our surfboards, I wasn't attached to the surfboard so I started sinking. I started to quickly swim back up to the top. I was a bit frantic and tried swimming to Anthony to get help. I was exhausted by that time. He finally got me to shore. I took my board and collapsed on my towel.

So water and rocks, you won this round. But I am going to get back out there and prove you wrong......

I'd show you my battle scars but they either don't show up or they are pretty disgusting.

Just Call Me Uno Uno

So as we were flipping through the channels, Yap stopped at ESPN. They were reporting on how Bengal's WR Chad Johnson changed his name to Chad Ocho Cinco. Yep, he's now Ocho Cinco.

See news here:
Chad Johnson becomes Ocho Cinco

So we were trying to come up with our names....I first said seventeen. But it didn't roll off the tongue like Ocho Cinco.

So now you can call me Uno Uno.
