Lahge Yeeah Yeeah

From Feb 27th to Mar 8th, I was on the East Coast doing not much of anything. Really. It's probably hard to believe if you know me because I don't really relax on vacations. I go all out and hard during vacations now because I feel like there is so much to see in so little time.

But, ah, I feel my age catching up with me. Or the fact that I go out so hard at work that, really, I have no energy to spare. Hmmm..... that could be it.

Anyways, so New York was just sleeping and eating and hanging out with Yap's old friends or family. It was nice to meet new people and see his family again.

So I'll just break this entry down in categories. Here goes. This entry will be all about food. Next time I'll write about everything else.

Food:

We ate so many different types of food, I felt like every meal was a really different meal from the last.

SATURDAY

We got in on Saturday morning. After putting our stuff away at Yap's aunt's place, we ventured out in Midtown to find some grub. We ended up at a place called Marseilles. A cute French restaurant. I ate this:
Brioche French Toast with Caramel Syrup. On top was sliced bananas and powdered sugar. I think I ended up with four cavities. Sooooo much sugar. I felt jittery after eating this and downing a cup of coffee. (Bad move on my part).

Yap ended up with a burger and fries:

So that was lunch for day one.

For dinner, we met up with Yap's cousin and his girlfriend and ate a mediocre Italian restaurant. No rave reviews on my spaghetti and meatballs.

SUNDAY

The next day, we met up with Yap's old friend. He took us to the Burger Joint which is located inside the Parker Meridien. You have to go behind the curtain by the information desk and enter the narrow corridor to the Burger Joint. You don't expect to find this here in such a posh hotel, but it's pretty damn good. Juicy burger and fries. Mmmm..... just make sure you know exactly what you want by the time you reach the counter, otherwise, go to the end of the line.

He took us to the Met where we proceeded to wander around for four hours. After exhausting both Yap and his friend of the museum, we went to Sarge's Deli. Great Jewish deli. Good latkes and good brisket sandwich.

MONDAY

Yap's cousin took us to this Japanese restaurant, Sobaya, that makes homemade noodles. Soba and Udon are their specialty, and it was good. I loved the udon, it really tasted fresh and homemade.

We went to a great coffee place called Think Coffee. So needed this after two days of Starbucks.... bleh.

For dinner, we met up with all the Yap's in NYC, and went to his cousin's husband's brother-in-law's place called Nelson Blue. Well actually he is the chef. It was great great food. We got all these appetizers for free, chicken, mini burgers (drool), and other stuff I can't remember. I had the scallops which was awesome except for I broke out into hives on the side of my stomach and I still have scars from that outbreak. Oh shellfish, how you hurt me but you are so delicious!

TUESDAY

We went to a tiny pizza place called, Bravo Pizza, bleeeechhhh. We got pizza and they happen to sell beef patties. So we had to try it. Too much breadcrumbs, not enough meat. And the dough used seemed off. Pizza was severely subpar and I can't believe that was my pizza experience for this trip. SOOO disappointing. But I guess that's what I get for making myself desperate to eat something, anything.

We met up with my friend Tanya for dinner. She chose Balkan food. Ok there meat pies were amazing. Yap's stuffed cabbage, though greasy, was really tasty. Definitely recommend this place. Cheap Balkan food. Yes. :)

WEDNESDAY

We went to the Shake Shack with Yap's cousin. Mmmm shake shack sauce. It was just good all around. Didn't have to wait long for food. Plus ten points for that.

Yap's other cousin took us out to Japanese food. Haru was good. Yap's cousin watched in awe while he ate all the remaining sushi, which was quite a bit...

THURSDAY

We headed to Boston on the infamous Fung Wah bus. After checking in at the Hilton Back Bay, which had great views of the city, we ended up at the Legal Seafood Restaurant. Everything at the restaurant was good but the crab cakes was something else. I liked it alot. It was chunks of real crab meat in a sea of sauce and whatever else was in it.

We met up with Cathy after the second hockey game. We ate at Pour House, the food was good and cheap! It was really great to see Cathy .....

FRIDAY

We ate McDonald's inside the bus station. Same old McDonald's.

At night, we met up with Yap's cousins again to eat at Buddakan. Loved their edamame dumplings. Everything else was pretty good. Everyone seemed to enjoy the duck and lamb. I enjoyed eating everything else. Like Yap said in his yelp review, good but not memorable.

Later that night, we met up with Tanya and Rusty and hit a couple of bars. We ended up at Criff Dog to eat fried hot dogs wrapped in bacon and avocado. Oh lordy.

SATURDAY

After a round of shopping, we ate at another Pub where I had Mac and cheese. Pretty decent. His cousin and I watched him polish off his plate and scrape it clean. No wonder why he's a hit with Asian parents.

For dinner, we met up with another childhood friend of Yap's. We went to a Spanish Tapas place and ordered three dishes and two pitchers of Sangria. The food was solid. The chorizo had a little kick to it. I polished off the plate of of salmon. Yap finished the chicken with ratatouille.

Oh sadness to not think about leaving the next day.

SUNDAY

Went to get souvenirs, and ended up at a small sandwich shop. Ate my chicken sandwich and Yap ate his mediocre pizza. Blah. Did it's job but not much else.

Next time, museums, hockey games, shopping, and most importantly an ode to Yap's aunt's bed.

Ok this post was mainly for me to remember the food because I <3 food.
